One of the steps you need to take when troubleshooting or letting go of your iPhone or iPad is to restore it to its factory state.
Previously, a locked iPhone or iPad had to be connected to a PC or Mac to restore it to its factory state. However, with the newly delivered iOS / iPadOS 15.2, it became clear that it can be initialized with the iPhone and iPad alone. Of course, if your iPhone is unlocked, you can also go to the Settings app and select General> Transfer or Reset iPhone> Erase All Content and Settings for instructions to restore factory settings. It's enough.
However, for example, when the passcode was entered incorrectly several times and locked, it was necessary to prepare a separate Mac or PC. In other words, you had to put your iPhone in recovery mode, connect it to your PC or Mac, and restore it from iTunes.
This is also an outdated method as of 2021, and nowadays, many iPhone users do not have a PC or Mac. With iOS 15.2, it's finally time to introduce a modern solution. There are two conditions for returning the iPhone or iPad to the factory. One is running iOS 15.2 or later, and the other is being connected to the network.
Devices that meet these criteria will display the "Erase iPhone" option at the bottom of the screen after failing to enter the passcode up to the maximum number of times.
Just tap it to agree to clear the data, then enter your Apple ID password to unregister your account. This will reset your device, completely erase all content and data, and restore factory settings. However, if your device can't connect to Wi-Fi or a communication line, the step to authenticate your Apple ID will fail and you won't be able to erase it. In that case, you'll have to rely on the old-fashioned recovery mode> how to connect to your PC or Mac. Source: 9to5Mac
