Have you ever been told by email or LINE that you couldn't send a video taken with your iPhone to your friends because it was too big or the screen was too dark and you didn't know what you were shooting?
In such a case, why not try using the photo app to edit videos easily. Even for the first time, if you are trimming (cutting out the screen) or adjusting the brightness, you should be able to do it immediately.
"Photos" app that allows you to edit videos taken with your iPhone
Some people may find the threshold a little high when they hear about editing a video. But don't worry. All of the methods introduced here are simple using the "Photos" app pre-installed on the iPhone, so even people who are not familiar with the operation should feel free to do it.
I will explain the procedure using iPhone SE 2nd generation (iOS 15.1), so please refer to it.
If you don't need the beginning or the end of the video you shot, cut it with "Trimming".
Open the first edited video in the "Photos" app and tap "Edit" at the top right of the screen.
Then a screen like the one in the picture below will be displayed. At this time, you can trim (cut) the video by shifting the <> marks (see the figure below) at both ends of the bottom of the screen to the left or right.
For example, if you want to cut the beginning part a little, move the "" mark on the left side little by little to the left side.
When trimming is complete, tap the checkmark at the bottom right of the screen and select "Save video as new clip" or "Save video". The video of the selected part is extracted.
You can use the method introduced above to cut and save any part of the video. However, you cannot "split" the video. Splitting is to split a video into two at a specified point. If you want to split it, install the video editing app distributed on the App Store separately.
If you want to change the exposure, highlighting, contrast and brightness of the video you shot, open the video with the photo app and then tap "Edit" at the top right of the screen.
Select the second icon from the left among the icons lined up at the bottom of the screen.
Then, the icons as shown below are lined up, so tap the item you want to edit. After that, move the lower scale left and right to adjust the brightness and contrast.
If you want to further filter the recorded video, tap the second icon from the right among the icons lined up at the bottom of the screen. By default, "Original" is selected, so swipe left on the displayed filter to choose the one you like.
Open the video in the "Photos" app, tap "Edit", and then tap the rightmost icon at the bottom of the screen.
If you want to flip the left and right of the video, tap the part ①. Select ② if you want to rotate the video 90 degrees to the left. If you want to fine-tune the tilt of the video, tap ③ and then move the scale below to the left or right.
Finally, tap the check mark at the bottom right of the screen to complete the editing.
Unfortunately, the "Photos" app installed on the iPhone from the beginning does not allow fast-forward editing or slow-playing editing of videos. Check the App Store to see if there is an app that can change the playback speed of the video.
Unfortunately, in addition to changing the playback speed, mosaic processing and adding text to videos are not possible with the photo app. If you want to get more involved in video editing by trimming, adjusting brightness, contrast and tilt, install and use the video editing app on the App Store.
Where are videos taken with iPhone stored? How to change the save destination?
Videos and photos taken with iPhone are automatically saved to iPhone storage. It is basically not possible to change this save destination.
However, if you enable "iCloud Photos" in the Settings app, you can save videos and photos to both iPhone storage and iCloud (cloud storage).
The method is easy. Open the settings app and tap "Photos". All you have to do is enable "iCloud Photos".
If you want to check the capacity of the recorded video, open the video with the "Photos" app and tap "i" at the bottom of the screen. ◯ MB will be displayed, so you should be able to check the capacity.
How to import videos taken with iPhone to computer
For videos and photos taken with iPhone, if you are using a "Mac" series computer released by Apple, you can easily send video data by using a function called "AirDrop".
Even with a Windows PC, you can transfer video data by connecting it to your iPhone with a USB cable. However, it may not be possible depending on the version of iPhone you are using and the OS of your computer. For details, please check the official Apple website below.
