An era when scanner-only machines are becoming unnecessary?
Smartphones have absorbed various things. It's a handheld game console, it's a clock, it's a music player, it's a calculator, a dictionary, a magazine, and so on.
I think there are things that should be left behind, but aside from that, the "digital camera" is absorbed by smartphones and seems to be "convenient". Recent smartphones are particularly remarkably high in image quality, so the number of compact digital cameras and other products has dropped sharply.
Today's smartphone cameras have high performance. This is the iPhone 12 mini, but it has enough performance to be useful as a digital camera. A snapshot taken with the iPhone 12 mini. In some cases, you can take a picture that seems to be a "good impression" than a mirrorless digital single-lens camera.
That's why I also use the camera of my smartphone. And when I noticed, I was also scanning paper documents with my smartphone. Also, there are quite a few apps for that.
For example, the "CamScanner" app. There are iOS version and Android version, but if you take a paper document with the camera of your smartphone, it will be shaped semi-automatically.
For a little digitization of paper documents, it's enough to use an app like this on your smartphone. Especially with recent smartphones, the camera has high image quality in the first place, so it is possible to perform sufficiently practical scanning.
However, with this app, you can "scan paper documents easily", but you can also get wrinkles of that ease. Depending on how you use it, the scan result may not be good. Later, there are things like "Ah !!! There are some parts that can't be read !!!".
The one on the left is scanned by CamScanner. Since the image is processed at an angle, it may not be possible to scan at the original resolution of the camera in some cases. The one on the right was taken with the camera app on a smartphone. The difference is clear. Both images are from iPhone 12 Pro Max. Also, this document (which will also appear as a sample) is my passbook in 1992, and I am currently in the process of digitizing my old passbook using a smartphone. ..
The difference between the above scans is a little extreme, but with a simple scan app, the image of the original may be considerably damaged. To prevent this, even a simple scan app needs to be scanned in a somewhat serious posture and environment.
When it comes to that, "Well, it's not that easy." And "I wonder if I should take a picture with the camera app on my smartphone from the beginning." Well, this easy scan app has a good total convenience, such as shooting and subsequent file management can be left to the app.
Aside from that, in recent years I've been scanning paper documents using the genuine camera app on my smartphone. So, the scanning method (shooting method) has been solidified, and I can get pretty good results constantly, so I would like to write about that method this time. The smartphone used for scanning (shooting) after that is the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
