What do you do in such a case?
When the cafe was going somewhere, it was necessary to connect to the Wi-Fi network from a new device.Wi-Fi passwords are stored on the laptops I always use, but they are not stored on new devices.
It is troublesome to ask again about the password.Or it can be difficult in the situation.
what would you do? it's simple. All you have to do is open your laptop and check your password.
Windows
There are several ways to check the Wi-Fi password stored in a laptop.
For example, display a command prompt and enter the following slightly complicated string.
Netsh WLAN Show Profile [Name of Wi-Fi Network] Key = Clear
Replace the Wi-Fi network name with the name (SSID) of the network you want to connect.
When you enter this string and press the Enter key, the Wi-Fi password is displayed in the [Main Content] field in the output result. If you look at it, you will know immediately.
If you want to try another way, you can get a password from the Windows10 setting app.
Open the configuration app, click Network and Internet, scroll down a little, click the Network and Shared Center, and click the Blue [Wi-Fi] link next to the Connection field.
Click [Wireless Properties] and check [Display password characters] in the Security tab.
There are tools where you can check your password in a simpler way, but be aware that Windows Defender may not like such tools very well.
At least when I tried to download NIRSOFT's "WirelessKeyView".Windows Defender is a threat, though it should be a harmless program.
Mac
With macOS, it's easy to check the saved Wi-Fi password.
Search for the terminal with a spotlight, start up, and enter as follows.
Security Find-Generic-Password -WA [Name of Wi-Fi Network]
As mentioned earlier, replace [Wi-Fi Network Name] by the network name you want to connect.
Executing the command requires an administrator authentication. When authenticated, the Wi-Fi password is displayed in the terminal.
Alternatively, you can dig out the saved Wi-Fi password from the key chain (key chain access app).
Start the app and click the key chain in the upper left. After that, find the Wi-Fi network you want to connect and double-click.
Then, the following small screen will be displayed. Check [Show password].
If you authenticate, you will be able to display a password.
* However, bathwords that are strictly managed by administrators in internal networks may not be confirmed by the above method. In such a case, give up and contact the administrator.
